Learn how to research on FamilySearch to expand your family tree
This training is designed for those with basic computer skills who want to start researching on the FamilySearch website. Be sure to complete Part 1: FSI Training before starting this one.

Step 1: Learn how to find and attach Blue Record Icons on your family tree
*Note- This step requires the most time, so stay committed and keep going!

Review
Learn 3 different ways to find blue record icons on the FamilySearch website, including:
Temple and Record Hints (located on the homepage)
Portrait view
A combination of the Fan Chart and Descendancy tree
ie. Use the Fan Chart to find an ancestor that lived around the 1800s. Open their tree in the Descendancy view and expand to 4 generations to look for possible blue record icons. (Make sure the Record Hints icon is activated.)
Opening names in a new tab can help you keep track of where you have been on your tree.
Step 2: Learn how to clean up a Details Page

Review
#1-Standardize all names and places. This improves the accuracy of FamilySearch finding records that might belong to your ancestor.
Click the pencil. Place the cursor at the end of the information needing to be standardized and press the spacebar. Select the correct standardized option.
#2- Review and attach records.
#3-Identify missing information (Research Helps may help).
